Muddy’s Hot Cup is a café situated near Humboldt State University in Northtown Arcata. We feature fine locally roasted coffee, home style food and baked goods right from our kitchen. We offer free wireless internet, exhibit local and traveling artwork, and we have a sculpture garden and a ping-pong table out back! In the evenings it is a thriving all ages venue featuring live local and touring music. If you are a band/artist traveling from San Francisco to Portland this is your midway stop! Read on to find out about booking, promoting your show, and how to make the most of your time at Muddy’s.

How to get booked at Muddy’s Hot Cup:

Your best bet is to fill out the form on this page. Please do not call. If you have never seen or touched a computer before, you may drop off or send a press pack to the café or the office (office hours vary: Attn: Booking/Muddy’s Hot Cup/ 1603 G. St./ Arcata Ca./ 95521). We’d like to know what genre of music you play, where you have played in town, when your last show was, how many people you drew at your last show, and how many people you can expect to draw at a show here. If you are interested in a supporting gig, you need to feel comfortable and confident that you can draw 15 to 30 people. If you are looking to headline, you should be able to draw 40 to 50. If you are looking to headline a weekend, you should be able to draw at least 90 folks. For Fine Art Booking please inform us of your medium, the theme and title of your proposed show and proposed date. We will try to respond to all e-mails, but it may take a while to get back to you. Be patient, we are doing our best.

Congratulations! We are thrilled to have you. Below are the steps to making sure everything goes smoothly.

Promotion:

We send basic information (band name/artist name/genre/show time) out to local media calendars and hang our Hot Cup calendar about town. The rest is up to you/your team. If you can do interviews (print and/or radio), flyer the town, tell your friends and your friends’ friends, and send out a regional e-mail, you will be sure to get your crowd here and attract some new fans.

Bands: Send 3 flyers to Muddy’s Hot Cup/ Attn: Flyers!/ 1603 G. St. Arcata Ca. 95518. (We will post in café 2 weeks in advance of show.)

For Fine Artists we will take care of designing, printing, and distributing your flyers for your exhibition. We set up a formal exhibition night that includes a platter of Cheese and fruit, a few bottles of Wine and a Live Jazz band for the event. We believe in supporting the Arts here at Muddy's and this is why we only take a 25% commission on Art that is sold during your exhibition.

We are working on establishing an Artist Profile page to be able to bring people out to your show! We would like to take submissions such as a website where we can get photos and a small description of you/your band and your art/music. If you don't have a website or don't want us to use whats there you can email us your bio, a link to your website, and a picture to use to begin promoting your show. Using other sources such as craigslist, tribe.net, Myspace are highly reccommended.

General venue info:

Capacity: 93

PA system: Yorkville system available. Consists of 2 speakers, 2 monitors, and an 8 channel mixer. 5 mic stands—bring your own mics! If you are looking for a local engineer we can recommend somebody.

Sound check: Because you will be doing your own sound check, unless otherwise arranged, we recommend showing up 2 hours before show-time and no later than one hour prior to show-time. You are welcome to arrange an earlier load in/ sound-check. We start charging a cover one half hour prior to show-time.

Parking: You are welcome to park behind Muddy’s to avoid schlepping heavy gear up the front steps. Take the drive immediately on your left. If the gate is locked one of the Muddy’s staff behind the counter can help you!

Hours: Muddy’s is open Sunday - Monday. Friday and Saturday shows generally begin at 9pm and end promptly at midnight. Sunday through Wednesday shows generally begin at 7pm or 8pm. There is a repeating Women’s Open Mic on Mondays starting at 8pm and a Thursday Jazz night that also starts at 8pm. Note: we do not book bands on these days!

Door:

Music only: Our staff will run your door and take out 10% until the $30 Muddy’s fee is met--the rest is yours!

Merchandise:

You sell your own merch and keep 100% of merch sales.

Food/ Drink:

We will certainly give you a beer on the house. Or if you’d prefer food we can arrange that, barring excess!

Muddy's Hot Cup is available for private parties, weddings, divorce parties or anything you can imagine. Muddy's Hot cup's intimate atmosphere includes a dance floor, a bar, and a state of the art sound system. We feature a kitchen that is fully equipped for catering supported by our chef and our professional staff.
